Start and Stop SQL Server Services using Command prompt

There are number of different ways to Start and Stop SQL Server services, you can using SQL Server Configuration Manger, SQL Server Mangement Studio, Sqlserver.exe, Command prompt and Windows Console . We will see how to start and stop SQL Server using Command Prompt.

You can use Net Start and Net Stop command to Start and Stop services on Windows, If you go through below example that will make you to understand better.

Start and Stop SQL Server Services using Command line

By using command prompt we can control the running services of sql server.

Net start MSSQLSERVER (default instance)

Net Start MSSQLSERVER$SQL2008 (Named Instance)

Net Start MSSQLSERVER$SQL2008 (Named Instance) /f /m

Net Stop MSSQLSERVER$SQL2008

Output

C:\ >NET STOP MSSQL$SQL2

The SQL Server (SQL2) service is stopping..
